The Topman on Top of The Roof

2 Samuel 11:2-3 “And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof, he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

David has just ascended on the top sit in Israel. He is King, all privileges are upon him. He is the man of the hour. Who wouldn’t want to be in such a position?
David, the man of Psalms – who had been divinely kept away from Saul who bayed for His blood, you would expect more Psalms from Him.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is a trap that comes with prestige and greatness. There is a relaxation that comes with success and greatness. This time, David was at the peak of his career. It was not about David “would be” king but – “is king”. This time when the Kings went to war, David went to walk. And walk on top of the roof of the top office in the land.

The Temptations of The Top

1. At the top, you are likely to have more praises than critics. This tells you that you may not easily know your errors.

2. You may be tempted to misuse your authority. David executed his dubious deals as “king”. The woman came as quickly as possible because the king had called her.

3. At the top, you can decide what is wrong and what is right for you. The bitter fact is that you cant decide the consequences of your choice.

4. The top.reveals your true character. Growth amplifies character. David never knew he could do such a mess until he was at the top.

5. At the top you have access.  Obviously the viewpoint gives a wider view. David saw far because he was at the top. It takes a tamed appetite to ignore some things you can access. Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial.

Not everything you access is for your picking. Self-discipline will keep you tamed. A tamed libido will keep you alive.

6. At the top, you can sponsor illegal trips. Some people seem moral until they can afford a hotel room. Some look like priests until they can afford an extra relationship. Sexual immorality comes after your wealth.

An adulteress woman reduces a man to a loaf of bread (Proverbs 6:26). As wealth increases, moral standards must be increased. Hopefully, you are not a sinner minus opportunity!

7. The top has no glue. Anyone at the top can come down faster than they rose . Rising takes time, but falling is instantaneous at times.
Those at the top fall with a bang but rising is without a bang. We can agree that the higher you are, the louder the bang. People can easily notice your fall than your rise. No wonder baby showers have few attendees yet funerals are crowded! Your departure is more noticeable than your coming.

Today I.would like you to make proper considerations in regard to your life. Are you prepared for your next level? Can you last?
Vashti the queen, had the beauty for the palace but lacked the character to stay. Greatness is not about makeup and beauty but character.
The greatest women are not remembered for their Brazillian hair but character. I’m yet to read about mother Theresa’s hairstyle. Great men like Martin Luther King lived beyond suits and hairstyles.
Can you sustain the pressure and the test of the top?
Rather than fight to go high, fight yourself to develop the capacity for it.

You may seem humble today leading a fellowship where two or three are gathered until you are entrusted with a thousand members!
You may seem humble with your “legedbenze” until you have a motor vehicle – then we get to know you!

Thank God, after the prophet rebuked King David, he repented. He was truly a man after God’s heart.
I hope you will avoid rooftops when you are at the top.

We should be very careful, because looking at the battles he had won , you wouldn’t expect this from him…sometimes we think we can’t fall especially after we have been through a wilderness, we feel we have been molded, may God help us.
